A Note From Bob
A big one to close the week
Friday morning, and we are finishing the week with a heavyweight. Today's featured quiz is the Vietnam War, the conflict that played out on the evening news for a decade and still shapes how Americans think about war and sacrifice. Further down, a second quiz widens the lens: the Cold War in Asia, 15 questions from the Korean Peninsula to the Taiwan Strait.
One more thing before you dive in. Tomorrow morning's Bob's Briefing carries a bonus quiz I picked just for Briefing readers, and it's a good one. The Briefing only goes to readers who have referred at least one friend. If that's already you, watch your inbox Saturday. If not, grab your referral link here and one referral gets you in. Pour the coffee.
Trivia Question of the Day
After France's defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954, the Geneva Accords split Vietnam into North and South along a line of latitude. Which parallel divided the two?
The answer is at the bottom of this email.
Today's Featured Quiz
The Vietnam War
It was the war that came home every night on the evening news. From the Gulf of Tonkin to the fall of Saigon, through Tet, Khe Sanh, and the long road to the Paris Peace Accords, this one covers the full sweep of America's most divisive conflict. Take your time with it. How much do you remember?
The Answer
The 17th parallel
The Geneva Accords of 1954 divided Vietnam at the 17th parallel, with Ho Chi Minh's forces in the North and a Western-backed government in the South. The line was meant to be temporary, pending nationwide elections that never came. And if you were thinking of the 38th parallel, that one split Korea; it is waiting for you in today's second quiz, just below.
On This Day
On this day in 1964, Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, granting President Lyndon Johnson broad authority to use military force in Southeast Asia without a formal declaration of war. Only two senators voted against it. The resolution became the legal foundation for a decade of American escalation in Vietnam, and the debate over its wisdom has never fully ended. Vietnam was one front in a much larger contest across the region. Your second quiz today, the Cold War in Asia, covers the rest: 15 questions from divided Korea to the Taiwan Strait.

Curious.
